Make a phone charging organizer from old jeans – easy sewing instructions

Old jeans often have a lot of life left in them, even if they're no longer suitable as clothing. One of the most durable parts of jeans is the back pocket – and that's precisely what can easily be repurposed into a practical phone charging organizer.

This project creates a "phone holder" designed to hang on a wall charger, keeping your phone securely in place while charging. It also neatly organizes the charging cable, preventing the phone from dangling by the cord.

The best part about this project is that it only requires a small piece of denim fabric, one pocket, and a little bit of time.

Materials

  • Jeans back pocket
  • Denim fabric for the backing (other fabrics work too)
  • Transparent plastic, cardboard, or thick felt for reinforcement
  • Bias tape for finishing the edges (optional)
  • Hanging loop
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Pins or clips
  • Thread
  • Decorations of your choice

Step 1 – Detach the pocket

Carefully detach the back pocket from old jeans. The original stitching of the pocket adds character to the product, so it's worth preserving if possible.

Note! Each jeans pocket is slightly different, making each finished organizer unique.

Step 2 – Cut the front and back pieces

Cut two rectangular pieces of denim fabric, approximately A5 size. Make sure the piece you cut is slightly larger than the pocket.

Round the corners for a softer look.

Step 3 – Attach the pocket

Sew the pocket onto one of the pieces you just cut. Aim for the center :) Sew the pocket along its original seams.

Add any desired decorations. Leather patches, buttons, beads, whatever you like.

Step 4 - Reinforcement and back

Next, connect the front and back pieces. Place the pieces wrong sides together and add reinforcement in between. Here I used laminating film, cut slightly smaller than the denim pieces. The reinforcement adds structure to the finished product and keeps the charging station straight.

Pin the pieces together with pins and clips and sew all around.

Step 5 – Finish the edges

Finish the edges with bias tape. The edges can also be left unfinished, but careful finishing makes the product durable and gives it a professional and neater look.

Step 6 - Hanging loop

Add a hanging loop. It can be made of denim fabric, string, leather cord, or bias tape.

Sew the hanging loop to the top.

Ready!

Your phone organizer is now ready to use.

The pocket fits a phone during charging, and the charging organizer helps keep the charging area tidy. The same idea works for headphones, chargers, notebooks, or other small items.

Why should you do this project?

  • Old jeans get a new life.
  • The project is suitable for beginners too.
  • Each organizer becomes unique.
  • An excellent gift idea.
  • A practical product for everyday use.
